Therese Nelson

About Me

My name is Therese Nelson and I am the founder and culinary curator of Black Culinary History, an organization founded in 2008 as a place for minority chefs, hospitality professionals, and those interested in the evolution of black people in the culinary arts to come together for fellowship, information sharing, and mentorship.

In addition to growing my organization I am a Private Chef and Caterer operating in East harlem. I am a proud product of Newark, NJ where I was born and raised, and a suma cume laude graduate of Johnson and Wales University with degrees in both Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts.

I am currently an East Harlem resident working my way through my first book on the culinary legacy of the African American chef in American cooking while evolving my culinary point of view through underground dinning events, private cooking classes and food photography.
