About Me

My name is Susan Melvin, DO, FAAFP. My professional title is Chief Medical Officer at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, which specializes in hospital and healthcare services. My skills and areas of expertise include healthcare management. In my role, I partner with physician leadership at Long Beach Memorial to advance the medical staff and advocate for patients. I serve as the bridge between the 1,200-member medical staff and management— fulfilling the vision of communication, education, collaboration and overall quality of care provided by the hospital. I am Board Certified in Family Medicine and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. I also hold a certificate of added qualifications in Geriatric Medicine and have completed the University of Southern California Management Development Program. I received my Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degreefrom Western University of Health Sciences. I am currently involved with the American College of Physician Executives, American Academy of Family Physicians and the Osteopathic Physicians & Surgeons of California, and the National Physicians Alliange, among others. Other community activities have included serving on the Long Beach Lung Association board of directors and AIDS Walk Long Beach advisory board. My hobbies and interests include photography, travel, and golf.
