Michelle Kim

Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor

About Me

My name is Michelle KIm. I am a recent Masters graduate alumni at Hunter college and was studying Rehabilitation Counseling. As part of my school requirements, I completed 700 hours at Samaratan Van Wyck Residential Treatment Program. I worked with the Rehabilitation Vocational team learning about the different services that are available to individuals with barriers to employment. Along with the different services, I've noticed that the individuals residing in the program were not only experiencing substance abuse issues but had co occurring disorders that impacted their mental health. Within my caseload, I had individuals ranging from being diagnosed in having traumatic brain injury to experiencing mania by having a bipolar disorder.
I am a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and seeking employment among the devompmentally challenged population. Along with a CRC, I also plan to be a Licensed Mental Heath Counselor (LMHC) as well. My experience at Samaritan village gained my interest in having a LMHC. I hope to one day make a difference in an individual's life making them more accomplished in their vocational aspects as well as their comfortability with themselves. This will not only mold them into being a potentially stronger person in today's society, but it will also make me into a more developed counselor.
