Melissa Flowers

About Me

My name is Melissa M. Flowers and I am an Instructional Technology Specialist at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) located in Murfreesboro, TN. My skills and areas of expertise include customer service and computer/information technology. I work with a number of faculty, staff, and Ph.D. candidates in the College of Basic and Applied Sciences. To find out more information about the college, you can visit us at: I also received my B.A. in Computer Information Systems from the university in 1999 and I am currently working on a Masters in Information Systems Security.

Before working at MTSU, I worked for the Tennessee Department of Health. There, I provided program support for several Centers for Disease Controls (CDC) and communicable disease programs such as Tuberculosis (TB) and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD). My primary duties included information technology end-user support for the multiple program areas throughout the Tennessee Department of Health and providing technical support for several state health agencies and local health departments. I also worked with other health related programs including Environmental Health and Emergency Preparedness.

Prior to working for the Department of Health, I worked for Tennessee Department of General Services. One of my primary duties included maintaining and tracking the department's Microsoft licensing and software inventory. I also provided technical support for the department’s computers and wrote end-user documentation.

Other work experience include: Help Desk Agent for the Base Network Control Center in Tullahoma and Division Secretary for the USAF, Arnold AFB TN and Wright-Patterson AFB OH.

I have several years of experience in computer and office security management, purchasing and procurement, education and training, projects teams, application testing, asset management, data conversion, user access security, data flow diagrams, data dictionaries, computer programming and writing detailed end-user, technical and procedural documentation.

My hobbies and interests include reading, learning new computer skills and book editing.
