About Me

I defend health systems and health care providers in a broad range of matters. My practice focuses on professional malpractice defense for skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities and sub-acute facilities, fraud and abuse investigation management and defense, and civil monetary penalty ("CMP") defense. Whether the client’s goal is settlement or taking the matter to trial, I work with the client to achieve the best possible result.

A former Assistant Attorney General in the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit for the State of Georgia, I am well versed in government investigations. As such, I am able to effectively represent and advise health care clients in the areas of business strategy and transactions, fraud and abuse protection, regulatory compliance and privacy and confidentiality matters, and I am able to assist health care systems with the investigation of potential fraud, waste or abuse issues, including all facets of the investigation, court proceedings, discovery, appeals and settlement with whistleblowers, the United States Department of Justice and the State Attorney General’s Office.

My False Claims Act and "qui tam" experience includes all types of billing, coding, and medical necessity cases, as well as kickbacks, quality of care, and worthless services cases. In addition, I counsel healthcare providers with respect to contracting, physician employment and corporate governance issues, including, for example, compliance with the Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Statute and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ("HIPAA").

Prior to becoming a lawyer, I worked as a certified trauma nurse specialist at one of the busiest trauma centers in the Southeast. My prior nursing experience is very broad and diverse and includes a variety of specialties, which enhances my ability to fully serve and successfully defend providers accused of regulatory violations.
