About Me

Ellen Gray Van Arsdale, Director of Student Intervention Services for the Palm Beach County School District, has served as an educator for over 30 years. She has thoroughly enjoyed and highly values her role as a 20 year High School Principal of three very different high schools - the Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, William T. Dwyer High School, and Port Charlotte High School and as an Assistant Principal at Piper and Western High Schools in Broward County. She is also proud of her positions as a special education and English teacher, student government, National Honor Society, and senior class sponsor, as well as an athletic director and cheerleading coach in Putnam and Broward counties. These experiences have made her well-versed in a wide variety of student, school, parental, and community needs. As an award winning principal, Mrs. Gray Van Arsdale was named the Magnet School Principal of the Year, the Florida State Arts Administrator of the Year, and the Muse Cultural Leader of Palm Beach County. Additionally, she was elected to serve on the Florida High School Athletic Association State Hardship Board, served as Chairman of Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Evaluation Committees and the Chairman of the Palm Beach County High School Principals' Association. Currently, she serves as the Palm Beach County School member of the county Homeless Advisory Board (HAB) and oversees homeless education, foster care, neglected, teen parent program, caregiving youth, school nursing services, prevention programs and ethics education. Ellen Gray Van Arsdale serves on the Scholars Council of the Snow Foundation and mentors homeless unaccompanied high school graduates into college. Ellen Gray Van Arsdale attended Duke University as one of fourteen students accepted into the school's first early admissions program. Due to financial hardship, she transferred to and graduated from the University of Florida, earning her Bachelor's Degree in special education, with high honors, and earned her Masters Degree with high honors in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University.
