Judith Lawrence Hi Ladies in DeKalb-Gwinnett: So one might wonder, why is a notary company located in Pennsylvania writing to people based in DeKalb-Gwinnett? The answer is simple … we want to help any of your Pennsylvania clients. We offer 24/7/365 Notary Services including weekends and holidays. One of the most important ways we can assist you is if you have a client who is vacationing or traveling in Pennsylvania and needs to close on an agreement or a property back in DeKalb-Gwinnett. You would just call Center City Notary at 215-870-3103 and ask us about our “Power Closing”. Our expert notaries will make sure the documents are signed and properly notarized. We will then scan the documents and email them to whomever you designate back in DeKalb-Gwinnett. That will include a Power of Attorney so that a representative can handle the closing. Important to note that the Power of Attorney is specific to the precise closing and cannot be used for anything else. The documents can then be overnighted. This can be done at our location or at a location of your choice. We also handle Apostilles nationwide which you can read about on our website. In addition, please check out our website for other services including, but not limited to, I-9 Verifications, Contracts and Deeds. . Please feel free to message me for further information or just to say hi. Judith

Kim Dildy The New Family Care Act The Family Care Act is a new law that took effect in Georgia on July 1, 2017. It applies only to employers with 25 or more employees; however, employers offering an employee stock ownership plan to their employees are excluded from coverage. The Family Care Act does not require employers to provide sick leave to employees. Instead, the Family Care Act requires employers that already give their workers paid sick leave to permit a portion of the leave (up to five days per calendar year) to be used for caring for the eligible employee’s immediate family members. An “immediate family member” is defined as “an employee’s child, parent, spouse, grandchild, grandparent, or any dependents as shown in the employee’s most recent tax return.” Only employees who work at least 30 hours per week are eligible to use their sick leave in this manner, and only after the sick leave is earned. The Family Care Act expressly states that it does not create a new cause of action against an employer for not complying with the new law. So, it is uncertain how impactful this new law will be. Nevertheless, a covered employer’s sick leave policies should be updated to conform to the new law. Moreover, it may be necessary for employees to advocate for policy changes if a covered employer is not in compliance with the new law. Felita Y. Cornog, Esq. The Law Office of Felita Cornog
